Force Charge Batteries Procedure

Force charging batteries is required when there is not enough charge in the batteries to induce the charger. There must be a minimum of 28 or 29 volts in the batteries for the charger to automatically start charging. Find below a table reflecting the volt and charger type compatible with your charging system.

  1. 1. Check water in all batteries. If water level is lower than the tops of the plates, then fill to the top of plates. Distilled water is recommended.
  2. 2. Due to expansion of the batteries when charging, you will need to check the water level again after charging. After charging is complete, fill the batteries to no more than 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch above plates in batteries.
  3. 3. Do not remove battery cables.
  4. 4. Follow table above for battery/charger/time. Charge each battery one at a time based on the time listed in the table above.
  5. 5. After completion of the charging cycle above, plug the golf car charger into the golf car and charge until charger cuts completely off.(With the exception of an E.R.I.C. charging system, golf car chargers will automatically shut off after charging cycle completes. The charger will not cut on again until the charger is unplugged and plugged in again.)
  6. 6. Drive the golf car for an extended period of time so the batteries will discharge, plug the golf car charger in again and repeat this cycle for about 3 or 4 times. Each time will increase the battery charge and golf car run time. After this cycle, you should not expect the batteries to hold a charge any longer than what you are currently experiencing.

NOTE: If the Golf Car Charger does not kick on after applying the Force Charge Procedure, repeat the same charge cycle again based on the Battery Type, Charger Type and Time allowed according to the above chart. After the second time trying the Force Charge procedure and the Golf Car Charger does not kick on, bring Golf Car and Charger in for Diagnostic and Repair.
